LIS 6711
a. Students analyze, organize, and describe various formats of information object.
In this assignment, I created a BIBFRAME record for the film Twilight (2008). To complete this task, I analyzed the film as an information object and identified the descriptive elements needed to represent it accurately in a bibliographic environment. This work required me to understand how metadata describes audiovisual materials and how those elements help organize and present the item within a cataloging structure.
b. Students identify and apply best practices in the use of different technologies for knowledge representation.
While creating the BIBFRAME record, I applied current cataloging practices that support knowledge representation in modern library systems. I used BIBFRAME concepts to structure the metadata and connect the work, instance, and related information in a clear way. This process helped me understand how emerging technologies shape bibliographic description and improve the discovery of materials in digital catalogs.
LIS 6603
a. Students analyze, organize, and describe various formats of information object.
For this assignment, I created a LibGuide on the topic of gender performance and reality television. I selected and organized a range of information objects, including videos, news articles, books, and scholarly sources. This process required me to evaluate each source and describe it in a way that helps users understand its relevance to the topic.
b. Students identify and apply best practices in the use of different technologies for knowledge representation.
While building the LibGuide, I used the platform’s organizational and metadata features to present information in a clear and accessible format. I structured the guide so users can easily navigate between different types of sources and explore the topic through multiple perspectives, which reflects best practices in organizing digital information resources.
LIS 5020
a. Students analyze, organize, and describe various formats of information object.
In this assignment, I located a job posting on the ALA job board and analyzed the information presented in the listing to understand the qualifications, responsibilities, and expectations of the role. I then used that information to organize my experiences and skills into a targeted cover letter that addressed the position directly and clearly described how my background aligned with the job.
b. Students identify and apply best practices in the use of different technologies for knowledge representation.
For this assignment, I used AI as a tool to help develop and refine a professional cover letter for a future career opportunity. This experience introduced me to the practical use of emerging technology to support professional writing and career development. By using the tool thoughtfully and ethically, I learned how technology can assist in organizing information, refining communication, and preparing materials for professional opportunities in the field.
